MOVE LIKE A GYMNAST

Online Workshop Series by Strongnastics & J2N

Ready to up your gymnastics game?  Eager to move your body more efficiently?

The Strongnastics team has put together a series of intermediate level mini workshops for you! With the proper flexibility, mobility, strength and skill work, anyone can become proficient at moving like a gymnast. 

Each online workshop will explore skills commonly found in gymnastics / calisthenics environments. We will break these skills down into manageable progressions and guide you along the way with coaching cues and feedback throughout. These workshops are great for anyone wanting to move better, get stronger and learn some cool stuff along the way! 

Choose to participate in one (1) workshop or all three (3) of our 90-minute Zoom sessions led by expert Coaches Merritt Lymburner and Jenn Lymburner! Each session will run on a Saturday from 10:30am-12:00pm EST.


*Note: These workshops will be covering STRICT movements only to accommodate those still under lock-down. While no kipping movements will be explored, the strict strength, mobility and technique work covered will only support your kipping skills.

Saturday, May 1st

Upper Body Push & Pull Skills

Gymnasts are known for their incredible upper body strength as a result of their training, and this session can help you acquire those same benefits. With a focus on push and pull strength (think: pull ups, push ups, ring muscle ups and handstand push ups), along with some fun technical skills to add variety to training, we know that anyone who jumps into this workshop will see results needed to up their upper body game!

Prerequisites: 

  • 30s+ Passive hang 
  • 1+ Strict pull up (recommended)*
  • 5+ Push ups (recommended)**

*While pull ups are required, they are strongly encouraged to get the most out of this session. If you do not have a pull up, you will need a box/chair for feet-assist and/or bands.

**While push ups are not required, they are strongly encouraged in order to get the most out of this session. The push up is the foundation of the handstand push up and more advanced press variations like dips, which will be a focal point in this workshop.

Equipment required:

  • Floor space
  • Wall space
  • Chair, box or bench (something to elevate feet on) 
  • Pull up bar
  • Low rings (ideal) *If you do not have rings, you can still do this workshop. Please have a set of DBs and/or paralettes to do elevated/deficit work)
  • Additional bands/or weights accessible if available for supplementary work
Saturday, May 8th

Inversions

Ready to become a handstand ninja? Want to know what it takes to show grace and control upside down like gymnasts do? Then this is the session for you! Our coaching team will teach you the progressions needed to be able to free-balance in handstand, as well as progress to handstand walking. This session requires some experience with inversions (see prerequisites below). If you are ready to get off the wall and balance solo, join us for this session and we can help you get there! 

Prerequisites:

  • 45s+ Wall facing handstand 
  • Confidence kicking up OFF the wall (understanding of how to safely fall/exit – i.e. cartwheels, front rolls, cartwheels off the wall)

Equipment required:

  • Floor space
  • Wall space
  • Box/chair/couch (something sturdy to elevate feet on)
  • Mat / towel (something soft for stretching)

Lower Body & Core Strength

It’s hard to imagine “gymnast” without thinking about “defined abs”. And while not all gymnasts rock 8-packs, they do have some of the strongest cores around. Not to mention their incredible lower body mobility and strength that allow them to do the jumps, leaps and tricks they do. 

In this session, our coaches will take you through a variety of core drills and lower body exercises geared at getting you both strong and mobile. Expect to see skills like pistols, shrimp squats, dragon flags, l-sits and more! You will walk away with a whole new set of tools to help your legs, back and abs get on the next level. 

Prerequisites:

  • 30s+ Passive bottom of squat (hips below parallel)
  • 30s+ Hollow hold

Equipment required:

  • Floor space
  • Mat / towel (something soft for stretching)
  • PVC / Stick
  • Set of parallettes (or DBs/boxes/benches)
  • Pull up bar (optional)

These are considered intermediate level workshops. Please review the workshops description and pre-requisites, and email strongnastics@gmail.com if you’re unsure whether it is the right fit for you.

As Coaches, it is our job to make sure participants have the suitable scaling options.

Individually, each workshop is $35+HST. If you purchase all three sessions, you receive a $5 savings per session ($90+HST). 

All payments will be made in Canadian dollars. HST is 13%. 

These Zoom workshops will be recorded. If you pay for a session but are unable to attend, you will receive the Zoom recording, accessible for one week post-workshop.

Partial refunds may be provided up to 7 days prior to the workshop. Refunds will not be provided within 7 days of the workshop. However, we can provide the workshop recording, or you may transfer your spot to someone (please send details to strongnastics@gmail.com).

As a thank you for joining us and to help you continue your gymnasty journey, all participants will receive a 4-week “Abs Like a Gymnast” training program that can easily be incorporated into your training routine.

On top of that, all participants will receive special discounts to coaching services including customized online programming and the J2N Total Body Mastery Method.

Every workshop will run on a Saturday from 10:30am-12:00pm EST via Zoom.
